Character NAME: Protoman/ Blues
Canon & MEDIUM: Megaman Classic (Video game with some of the Megamix manga thrown in)
Canon PULL-POINT: Shortly after Mega Man 9.
Character AGE: Blues' age is never specified but, he has the mental age of an adult and was built to look like he’s in his mid to late teens.
Character ABILITIES:
Proto Buster: A powerful arm canon that shoots energy generated from Blues' core. He can charge energy to make the shot stronger.
Big Bang Strike: An energy blast of tremendous power. This attack is very dangerous to Blues, however, as it severely drains his energy.
Variable Weapon System: Blues can copy weapons from other robots and use them to his own advantage, limited to ten copied weapons as a time.
Blues is also a skilled programmer and hacker (comes with being a bitchy computer on legs).
Character HISTORY:
[The history I’m working with is a mix of the games’ canon and the Megamix manga because Capcom doesn’t believe in fleshing out characters or story much.]
Proto Man, also known as Blues, is the first Robot Master created by Dr. Light and is considered the "brother" to Mega Man (Rock) and Roll. He was intended to become the first humanoid robot capable of independent thought and reasoning. With the development of robots who were capable of logical thought (albeit limited by their programming) inevitably came situations where those same robots started to act on accord of their own judgment rather than blindly following the orders of humans as their predecessors did. Recognizing the potential danger presented by a prototype with such advanced abilities, Dr. Light included a failsafe feature in Blues' design that would prevent him from breaking the Three Laws of Robotics. It was this unfinished failsafe that would end up conflicting with Blues' original programming, causing a dangerous imbalance in his energy core that would eventually kill him. Fearing Light would change his character, Blues refused to have Dr. Light meddle with his systems and went missing.
Dr. Light had presumed Blues to have died and regrettably gave up on him. Learning from his mistakes, he perfected the energy core and created sibling units Rock and Roll.
Knowing the time of his demise, Blues wandered the world alone. Before his energy reactor was completely depleted, he was found by the exiled scientist Dr. Wily. Wily managed to temporarily repair Blues by altering his energy core from a solar to a nuclear one, as well as making other modifications, turning him into a combat robot. He also gave Blues the Proto Shield, his helmet and his now-trademark visor in an attempt to hide his identity from Dr. Light. Presumably, working on Blues' systems gave Wily greater knowledge in creating robots, helping his plans for world domination along.
Indebted to Wily, Blues served him under the alias of Break Man. He did this until his encounters with Mega Man (in Mega Man 3) made him realize the true nature of Wily's intentions. Blues turned on Wily, aiding Mega Man but refusing help from Dr. Light, still holding onto his feelings of distrust.
Blues prefers to work behind the scenes, showing up every now and then to help Mega Man fight Wiley and his Robot Masters. A list of his appearances can be found here.
Character PERSONALITY:
Okay, so, Blues is stubbornly independent. He doesn’t like being told what to do and will find ways to implement his plans around what he’s been ordered, especially if he deems the orders to be impractical or inefficient. He’s a Robot Master. He was made to control, care for, and coordinate subordinate units (whom he often thinks of as pets or, in Rock’s case, siblings). He will not obey someone he’s classified as inept. It’s not insubordination to him. It’s simply using the logical, more efficient means to an end.
This independence is crippled by the three laws. He can’t disobey a direct order from a human unless he can come up with a loop hole that satisfies the second law. He’s ridiculously good at creating logic chains to do just that. Unfortunately, the conflict between the three laws and his own personality is constant. So much so, that it affects his core. Compliance or death are what the three laws are to Blues. They’re coded to shut down his core should he ever break the first law. As such, he thinks that having his will and using it to do what he believes in is of far more value than his life.
Blues desires efficiency and order above all else. This was what Robot Masters were made for. Unfortunately, those desires eventually began to apply to the human race and how it does things; leading to Dr. Light adding the Three Laws to Blues’ programming. He still works towards achieving an orderly, logical system for the world and is in constant pain due to the conflicts this brings up with the laws.
Blues often comes off as arrogant or cold. This is partially because he has a good portion of his emotional displays turned off and doesn’t show much in the way of physical emotion but also, because he is a bit arrogant. He doesn’t trust others easily due to Light’s betrayal and the example set by humanity as a whole. He views humans as a misguided race in need of someone to point them in the right direction and the person doing the pointing should really be Blues. He can’t ‘master’ humans like he would subordinate robots and has to settle for indirectly fiddling with things while fighting with his three laws programming. To say he has a dim view of the collective human intelligence is an understatement.
He does not follow anyone on blind faith. Faith is for fools and Blues doesn’t let others do things that he could be doing himself. Actions speak louder than words with him. Blues remembers everything he has seen or heard and will act accordingly. At worst, he avoids those who have hurt or tried to hurt him. At best, he’ll think of someone as a rather strange subordinate unit. Genuine friendship is something Blues doesn’t really prescribe to. Past experience has taught him that trust will probably get him stabbed in the back. Doesn’t mean he isn’t capable of it; just that is requires a lot of work to get there.
To the human perspective, Blues is morally questionable and often times a flat-out jerk. He’s very solitary and he does things according to a computer’s logic. If it makes sense to do something a certain way, then morals have little to no standing. Blues has no problem manipulating others in order to achieve his goals. He does have a skewed moral code and a strong sense of justice though, (partially forced on him by the three laws) and will rarely do anything that isn’t pushing toward good ends.
Blues is more than a little paranoid when it comes to his own maintenance as he is afraid of being reprogrammed and losing his personality. So much so that he does all of his maintenance himself to the best of his ability. The things he can't fix are grudgingly left alone till he finds someone (who is not Dr. Light) that can fix him.
While Blues doesn't particularly care much about physical appearances, he does get irritated when he's treated like the child he appears to be. He's a robot; those things don't apply. and he doesn't have much patience for it. Unless he can use such presumptions to his advantage, it gets in the way, making things needlessly difficult.
As far as canonmates go, he’s rather ambivalent to the majority of them while still favoring Dr. Light’s creations; the exceptions being Rock (Mega Man) and Shadowman (one of Wiley’s Robot Masters). Blues actively goes out of his way to help Rock and looks out for him the way an older brother would. His relationship with Shadowman is harder to describe. They aren’t friends but neither are they enemies; just two individuals that occasionally work towards a common goal and have a healthy respect for each other.
Blues also has a fondness for music androbot cats .

Chosen WEAPON:
He would choose to augment his Proto Shield…..and I’ll come up with how it grows/changes later.
Chosen SKILLSET:
Blues is perfectly capable of defending himself and is a skilled fighter. Unfortunately, due to the fact that he is a prototype and wasn't originally designed as a war-bot, he is rather fragile. Also, according to the first law, he can’t harm humans or allow them to be harmed through his inaction. As such, he’d make a superb body guard…much to his displeasure and chagrin.

First PERSON:
[video. A rather unamused teenager stares irritatedly into the camera. Well, he would be if you could see his eyes past his sunglasses. Boy does he have a good poker face.]
This network is a joke. I would like to meet the people behind its security if possible, so that improvements can be made.
On that note, I don’t need the netbook I was given. If anyone needs an extra one, contact me. None of its parts are compatible with my systems and I don’t need it to connect with the network.
Third PERSON:
It was exceedingly rare for Blues to be caught off guard by anything. He hadn’t quite seen it all but he had enough experiential data to help him deal with most unexpected situations. This, though. This was….new. He had been told that this was the future and, as soon as the attendant had handed him what this place thought passed for a computer, he had hacked his way onto the network and into the archives.
First, the network security was about as secure as wet tissue paper. It didn’t take genius to rig a strong network security system and to be honest, Blues was disappointed. At least he wouldn’t have to actively look for things to improve upon here. Second, the attendant hadn’t been lying. According to the historical archives this really was the future and the future sucked. Not only was the technology laughable and everything else terribly unorganized but, apparently there was a war going on.
War wasn’t something he was interested in; he’d seen enough of them over the course of his (admittedly short) lifetime to know that he’d had enough. He had more important things he could be doing. The fact that this was a human war though… That was problematic at best. Crippling at worst and Blues was pretty sure this whole fiasco was going to hurt him far more than anything had before.
Great, just great.
